1959 MHS 40TH COMMERCIAL COURSE CLASS REUNION
The 1959 Commercial Course held its 40th Reunion on Sept. 11, 1999.
The event started off with a wine and cheese held at the home of Doreen
Johnson. As our fellow classmates arrived, it was so exciting to
see if they were recognized right away by each other. This was the
very first reunion, so many of us had not seen each other since graduation,
thereby, making this encounter very special. Name tags with the person's
year book picture and write up, which were made by Gayle (Monteith) Ritchie,
who did a wonderful job, were handed out to each classmate as they arrived.
This made it even more interesting if we were not quite sure who the person
was. Stories were exchanged and everyone got a chance to get caught
up on what had taken place in each other's lives. Soon it was time to head
off to good old Moncton High School for a tour of the school. It
was quite thrilling to enter through the Tower Door and walk into the auditorium
and up to the stage again after all these years. Many of us had our
cameras and had group pictures taken on the stage. We were then given
a tour of the school, and were even able to find our old classroom.
We walked down the halls looking at the former graduation pictures and
picking out our old friends. Unfortunately, our own graduation picture
is not hanging on the wall, as it had fallen into disrepair some years
ago. The school was successful in finding it and although there is
no frame on it and there are 44 pictures missing, we are going to try and
restore it. We will be getting an estimate on the repairs soon and
will try and replace the missing pictures by some type of copying.
We will need some funds to do this and would appreciate any donations to
help complete this project and get our graduation picture back up on the
halls of MHS. Anyone interested in donating towards this fund can
get in touch with me, Doreen Johnson, at 389-1047 or by email at dljohn@nb.sympatico.ca.
The next event of the day was an evening supper at the House of Lamb.
Our MC for the evening was Wayne Beers who did a wonderful job at keeping
us entertained throughout the evening. Various prizes were given
out for such things such as: who travelled the farthest to attend
the reunion, who has the most grandchildren, who has changed the least
just to name a few. Wayne read a poem that he had written which mentioned
something about each person attending the reunion, which was very entertaining.
The last event of the evening was off to the Press Club where we continued
to socialize, listen to music and dance. I would like to thank Judy (Bateman)
Welling, who donated the beautiful flowers for the tables and helped Gayle
(Monteith) Ritchie, Sylvia (Donnovan) LeBlanc and myself decorate the restaurant
and organize this event. Their help was very much appreciated. Special
thanks also to Wayne Beers for being our MC for the evening and to the
teachers at MHS who gave us the tour and opened up the gift shop for us
and helped make this reunion very special.
