| William Hynes of Moncton was 24 when he was killed during a training
flight of a Lancaster bomber in England January 13, 1944. The aircraft
was involved in daylight operations when it crashed into The Wash, the
shallow bay on the east coast of England between Lincolnshire and Norfolk
counties. An extensive air and sea search failed to find any survivors.
Witnesses at the time said the airplane, attached to 15 Squadron RCAF,
was on fire when it crashed.
Hynes was the son of James J. and Bessie Ellen Hynes. Because his body
was not recovered, he is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial in Surrey.
